Contract information contains key information for futures trading. Using gold futures as an example, the following explains the important terms:

I. Contract Basic Information

Contract Name Gold Main Continuous Contract, representing that the underlying asset traded is gold.

Contract Code (Example: GC2512)

GC: Gold code

25: Year 2025

12: December delivery That is, a gold contract for delivery in December 2025.

Exchange New York Mercantile Exchange (one of the world’s major metals futures exchanges).

Contract Type Precious metals futures.

Delivery Method Physical delivery. However, most investors close their positions before expiration and do not participate in actual physical delivery.

II. Trading Specifications

Contract Size 1 contract = 100 troy ounces of gold.

Pricing Currency USD.

Minimum Price Fluctuation

Minimum tick size: $0.1

For every $0.1 price movement, the profit or loss per contract changes by $10 (Calculation: 0.1 × 100)

Contract Value Calculation Contract Value = Latest Price × 100 For example, if the price is 4035.5, then the value of 1 contract is approximately $403,550.

Trading Hours (Beijing Time) 06:00 (next day) – 05:00 (next day) (UTC+8).

III. Margin Requirements

Initial Margin $16,500. This is the minimum amount required in the account to open a position.

Maintenance Margin $16,500. The minimum amount that must be maintained while holding a position. If the account balance falls below this level, a margin call will be triggered.

Discounted Margin (If Applicable)

Initial Margin: $6,600

Maintenance Margin: $6,000 (Applicable only during designated promotional periods)

Discount Period (Beijing Time) 06:30 (next day) – 05:00 (next day).

IV. Contract Lifecycle

First Notice Day 2025/11/28 If you do not intend to participate in physical delivery, please close your position before this date.

Last Trading Day 2025/12/29 This is the final day the contract can be traded. After this date, any open positions will enter the delivery process.
